here's something to contemplate and absorb:

"To what shall we compare certain poor wretches? To unhappy maniacs, who, while it is sunny outside, and there is food and affection nearby, refuse to go out, to eat, to speak, and instead shut themselves up like savage beasts, in their lair, in the darkness, letting themselves die of starvation.

They are abysses of error, of horror, sometimes of hatred, which have to be filled up with patience, with mercy, with love and with suffering. With patience bearing their ideas; with mercy coming near them again, despite the disgust which their spiritual leprosy gives us; with love because love is the conqueror and is the most powerful medicine there is; and with suffering, because to give Life and Light, one has to die, like the lantern that gives light by its burning out; and like the grain which gives food, if it dies.

Give these things - and that's enough. Words are useless because these souls are governed by Satan, who stops them from hearing. One has to conquer Satan first, and this is done by prayer and suffering, not by discussions, in which he is the master at convincing one of his doctrines.

Prayer and sacrifice is the only solution. They are controlled by Satan who convinces them through his doctrine.

Become like Jesus and redeem them through your sacrifice.

Peace

Please, laurak, take my prayers with you to her.

I would gladly put myself in between this unfortunate lady (and her boyfriend, who should promise marriage if he is so ready for her to bear his child) and her mother and her grandmother to reach a harmony that can return to the love they should have between them.

This unborn masterpiece of a child does have that mystical, miraculous 'magic' from God - to bring them together.

You say she is a close family friend, so my suggestion is based on that.
Would you be willing to mediate for this girl and her mother/grandmother?

If the mother & grandmother as "extremely devout" as comes across above, then I would be that they would be more horrified at the thought of a child being aborted on their account than the girl being pregnant to begin with.

There are no promises in this life, but God does have a way of using difficult situations to bring people closer. This girl may have enough life-lessons under her belt to see this reality. It's a concept that is universal, yet doesn't have to use "religious words" either. This situation may have been allowed to happen so that the girl and her family finally have an opportunity to love more deeply.

But I don't see how it could possibly happen without a mediator in such a short amount of time. Talk about living out your common priestly vocation that you were given at your baptism! Mediator for the life of a child.

I will pray for you and your family.

I've come to you all, to ask your advise. I discovered yesterday, that a close family friend is considering an abortion. She has her first appointment at Planned Parenthood tomorrow. The final one, next week.

She told me this in confidence. Is it wrong to betray a confidence, if an innocent life is at stake?

I spoke with her at length and gave her an 800 # to call, to have someone to talk to. I did my best to defend life, in a gentle, realistic, down to earth way. She is at least considering the possiblity of adoption, but she is terrified of her mother and grandmother and does not have a good relationship with them. Her mother and grandmother is the reason she is seeking an abortion. They are Catholics, her grandmother is extremely devout and attends daily mass, but she can't talk to either one of them.

Does her mother or grandmother have a right to know? Her boyfriend is crying because he has no say in her decision.

Does anyone have any advise? How to talk to her in a gentle non, threatening way that isn't full of "religious words".

I am sorry to turn to all of you for this issue, but I can not speak with anyone else about it, without betraying a confidence.

Thank you.

laura
