The kingdom of God

I have recently been reading Pope Benedict's book 'jesus of nazarath'.  He has explained some things in it that are really interesting and I have been contemplating them. All of us know we have a mission to build up the kingdom of God.What does that mean? Pope Benedict reminds us of some things we should all know , but often forget.1) the kingdom of God is NOT of this earth.2) it is the kingdom of GOD.3) it is primarily an interior kingdom with the heart of each human being. He puts forth the argument that one of the reasons the world is in so much trouble today is because we have moved changed ( for many people even many Catholics) the meaning of the kingdom of God.Many people including many Catholics used to claim the kingdom of God was 'the church' only. The post Vatican II it became in vogue to be ‘christocentric’ so that all who believed in Christ are part of that kingdom , but that wasn't all embracing enough and so the focus was again moved from the kingdom of GOD to just 'the kingdom'.  A kind of utopian vision of the world were everybody 'just gets along' ignoring their real differences.  There is no longer any real room for God.

So I am thinking, what are practical ways I can bring the kingdom of God within my heart and make it live within me? What kind of things do you all do?

This also, has a very interesting influence on ,how , we should interact with the world around us.  When we feed the hunger , what should be our focus?

Should we ,all get along and not worry about that God thing , then just feed people , or are we doing a disservice if our focus is not brining people both food AND the kingdom within us.  That is not to say we should make someone listen to us say anything at all when we serve them, but isn’t it important that they see HIM ( Jesus who is the kingdom itself in some ways.) in our eyes? Haven’t we failed if they do not?

Interesting thoughts.  I haven't read The Pope's book so I can't really comment on what is in the book.  But, the three things that the Pope wants us to know I feel strongly about.

For us to be "christocentric" we need to believe and feel the kingdom of God within our hearts.  My thoughts are how can Christ live within us if we do not "build a home" for Him inside our hearts.  This "home" is the Kingdom of God.

I struggled with "building a home" for Christ inside for many years.  It was by pure chance (perhaps divine chance) that in the mail I received some material that wanted me to buy a book with notebook leaves in it that talked about the saints.  One of the samples in there was a informational sheet on St Teresa de Avilla.  The information on her was interesting to me as it said she was the the patron saint for headache suffers.  Being someone that suffers from migraine headaches and cluster headaches I was drawn to her.  And later that same week when I couldn't sleep one night (Viet Nam flashbacks) I was watching TV and by chance channel searched onto EWTN and they had a movie on about ST Teresa.  I was hooked at that point.  I then started doing more research on this saint and started reading excerpts of what she had written.  Excerpts from the book "Interior Castles" spoke about prayer and how through prayer we became closer to God just like if we were building castles inside of us.

This saint led me to take more interest in prayer.  Not just praying the Rosary or reciting other prayers, but actually emptying my heart out to God when I prayed.  Not long prayers mind you all the time but , prayers asking for strength, forgiveness, or just saying thanks several times throughout my day.

As a convert to catholicism, praying and asking the saints to intercede  for me was something I never really had done, until I discovered St Teresa.  By discovering this saint and rediscovering prayer through her, I asked her to intercede on my behalf.  Then I began to ask other saints to help me with their prayers.  With the help of St Anthony of Padua, St Joan of Arc, Mary our Mother, and St Teresa I began to feel if I was opening my heart to God (building a home) allowing the Kingdom of God to live in my heart.

Am I perfect?  Not by a long shot.  This is a long journey with many turns along the way.  But it is through prayer that I have really discovered that the Kingdom of God resides in my heart.

Another thing I will start doing soon is a package I got in the mail today.  It is a total consecration to Mary according to St Louis Marie de Montfort.

Tarheel - that is so cool. I was born after veitnam was was only a memory , but I have the greatest respect for those who put thier lives in danger in support of our nation.  I know it comes at a cost that is heavy indeed.  The total consecration to mary that I have taken 'mine is st. maximillian kolbes but his was modled after St. Louis de montfort's ' has brought me many graces.  I'm sure it will for you as well.  God bless , and peace.

fishman wonderful topic:

something I took from the CCC and printed out then hung on my wall.

My Lord and my God, take from me everything
that distances me from you.
My Lord and my God, give me everything that
brings me closer to you.
My Lord and my God, detach me from myself to
give my all to you.

St. Nicholas of Flüe; cf. Mt 5:29; 16:24

Words of encouragement I call them. Certain phrases, bring out certain meanings. Some strike penetrating almost immediately to prepare the soil in your soul, some take time to penetrate. Consequently, I have done this sort of thing with scripture verses and pinned them on the wall in my home. I have also printed out the Divine Mercy Picture I found on the internet and pinned them above my front door and the door of my bedroom (inside)

Sometimes the Holy Spirit gives me certain phrases just for me, just like St. Nicholas. These are great things. From the heart and intellect comes knowledge and understanding through the Holy Spirit. The more time we spend in meditated prayer the more we receive. An immersion, immerse yourself into God, the soul knows how.

A negative thing which I encounter: As easily as we fill up, we also waste what we received. The Holy Mother said to this one person, my hands have so much graces for you, but how much of it goes to waste? Another words it's tough to stay focused afterwards. One thing is needful to lay prostrate and beg.

To be solely dedicated to God and nothing else is tough, because of loneliness and other things which stem from this. To have friends and family and share your love with another by doing good, can wear you out, but the rewards are unending. To have peace inside and be still is a gift of God which comes from time alone with God in meditated prayer. The more we nurture this kind of lifestyle the more God enlarges your soul. Your kingdom come to earth as it is in heaven. 30 minutes becomes 1hr, 1hr becomes 2 and so forth.

And finally St Augustine of Hippo - While Bishop

For your mercies sake, O Lord my God, tell me what you are to me. Say to my soul: I am your salvation. So speak that I may hear, O Lord; my heart is listening; open it that it may hear you, and say to my soul: I am your salvation. After hearing this word, may I come in haste to take hold of you. Hide not your face from me. Let me see your face even if I die, lest I die with longing to see it. The house of my soul is too small to receive you; let it be enlarged by you. It is in ruins; do you repair it? There are things in it - I confess and I know that must offend your sight. But who shall cleanse it? Or to what others besides you shall I cry out? From my secret sins cleanse me, O Lord, and from those of others spare your servant.

I typed to whole, just for keeps sake but for the fact that we are in the same place are we not? Even this great saint had serious callings to God. He must have read a lot of Psalms.

Peace.

(New kid on the block, just waiving a hand.)

 (Jesus the Christ.)

Said that lest you believe as a child you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

The christian church refers to it's followers as lambs of the church.

The lamb being one of the dumbest animals on the face of the earth and will follow shadows.

Were Jesus Christ and the christian church trying to tell humanity that the dumber you are the better christian that you can be???

grumpybumpas:  what you read is called a "parable" Jesus is God.

God is considered the Creator of all that there is visible and invisible.

I'll use this TV commercial to make my point.

When EF HUTTON Speaks everybody Listens.

when Jesus spoke, everybody Listened.  Because Jesus is considered God.

Just as EF Hutton was making a point that they were the authority on stocks, Jesus came to teach, show and give us knowledge using the natural things of the world such as farm animals, trees, seeds, and eathly rulers and poor people using analogies of the things that men and women could identify with.  More easily understood, rather than using farout knowledge that is pointless and unfathomable.  Common sense.  Which "I'm sure" you have some. Just confounded.  Confused.

Ask God to sweep away the noise to see Him and Him only, so your intellect can say "man" "God is real".  After which your soul will have reached your intellect.  Your soul, if you believe you have one is telling your intellect to find God.  Your intellect controls your body at the moment. The knowledge, what is has been fed up to now(acquired), does not recognize God, but your soul does.  Ask God for an apparition, locution the "I Got it".  This is called Raima.  That's what you need.  Your mind is unbelieving.  Your mind needs to be undone of the blinders.

pray this prayer

God open my eyes.  I want to see if you're real.

Amen.

fishman,

Scott Hahn had a revelation about Revelations being the Eucharistic Celebration.

That St. John saw Heaven as one Big Mass celebration.  Scott goes on to say the every time we attend a Mass, we enter Heaven on earth.

Some saints go on to say that 30 minutes before the Mass is said, Angels come down to surround the Tabernacle at every Tabernacle to adore Christ.  I try to sit in the first row closest to the Tabernacle, maybe I can catch a wing fluttering.
