The most encouraging news yet about the freeing-up of the Traditional Mass and the hope of reconciliation with the Society of St Pius X, or at least some of its religious and adherents.

Hi Michael

I was in Rome recently and attended some Traditional Masses. I was not terribly impressed.

However I did attend a new rite Mass celebrated by the Pope in Latin, with the singing of the old familiar hymns and it was very moving, devotional and uplifting.

God bless,

NoelFitz.

NoelF,

I think a single sampling isn't fair to really make any "judgement" about anything.  I, too, have attended only 1 Tridentine Mass in my lifetime.  I, too, was very much unimpressed.  My own personal preferences are also for the Novus Ordo in Latin.

But most importantly, I recognize that these are my own PREFERENCES and that that has nothing to do with validity or legitimacy or any other complaint some might have about one vs the other.

I don't think it should be one vs the other.

I'm happy if the Motu proprio comes through because I think that there are some that PREFER the Tridentine, and that is just fine with me.  As long as they recognize it is a personal preference and it helps them get closer to God.

Hi Ipioch

Thank you for your email.

The point I was making was that I was very moved by the Novus Ordo Mass in Latin celebrated by the Pope.

A Mass is a Mass, but a valid and lawful Mass can be boring.

God bless,

NoelFitz.

Distracted perhaps, bored? Who can be bored in the company of Angels and Saints when we sing "Holy, Holy, Holy" ... and the heavens shake!

NoelFitz, If the Pope, with all the liturgical resources of the Vatican, can't celebrate an impressive Novus Ordo Mass, then nobody could.  Apart from anything else, his own holiness and the dignity and reverence with which he conducts any liturgy are unparalleled.  However NO Mass celebrated with dignity and reverence are in my experience extremely scarce.  I'm sorry you were disappointed with the Traditional Masses you attended.  It is quite possible for those to be celebrated badly too, though not nearly as easy as with the NO because the personality of the celebrant is so much less obtrusive, the rubrics are more strict and there are fewer distractions.

But the point is that each rite is equally valid (the Tridentine Rite was never prohibited by the Church, though it is in practice suppressed by most bishops).  Let's have the motu proprio, and let priests and people choose freely for themselves.

Peace CE buddies!Innocent

We need the Tridentine Mass.  Same with the Novus Ordo.

Latin was tossed out with the bath water in our attempt to make the Mass more meaningful to people.  There should be no restrictions on the old Mass or Latin.  I personally can't wait until this wrong is righted.  The Latin Mass does not harm our relationship with God.

I love to see people who love Mass.  Trad or Novus ... it is all good.  It is the Mass and we receive our greatest Sacrament during it.  God is so good and merciful to come to us sinners!
