Novena Services

About a year ago my wife and I made new friends within the local Fil-Am (Philipino-American) community here in Mobile Al. And one of the wonderful things we were invited to was a weekly novena service to "Our Lady of Perpetual Help" in the home of of new friends.  This short but heartwarming service is followed by a fellowship by all who attend.  Adults and children attend so it is a gathering of not just Fil-Am members but our extended faith family also.

I converted to catholicism several years ago and this service was the first I had ever attended.  This service fills my soul with a very peaceful feeling and always removes whatever stress I may have for that day or week.

This feeling I get, is it just me or do any of you get the same feeling at a novena service.

Thank you

Tarheel,

Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a powerful novena.  A former bishop prayed this novena when plans were initiated to build a larger cathedral in our diocese.  The new cathedral of our diocese was named Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

In the mid 1990s I took part in the first day of the Novena Divine Mercy followed by the Divine Mercy Chaplet after Good Friday mid-afternoon service.  The church was about ¾ full.  After the chaplet the priest announced that two priests will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  The two priests heard confessions until almost midnight.  This was amazing at a time when confessions were few.

I realize that your area is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.  I will include your diocese in the 54-day novena that I am praying.  Recently I read about the 54-day Rosary Novena in a Catholic Exchange article by Stephanie Wood.

May the peace of Christ be with you and yours.

Thank You.  My family lost a house in Biloxi MS during Katrina.  My oldest son and his frnadmother lived in it at the time, they lost nearly everything they had.

Thanks you for including my diocese and if you could please include the Diocese of Biloxi.  There are a few churches and parochial schools that are not open yet.

Thank you and May God Bless you.
