My dear CE friends,

Our family will be in Columbus, OH after Christmas, and as I've never been there before, we will be looking for a church to attend Mass on Sunday. We are staying downtown, and I see that the Cathedral is close to our hotel, but there are other Catholic Churches close by as well. So, since we have a choice, I wanted to see if anyone has an opinion particularly regarding the orthodoxy of the parish.

Re: Work-in-Progress's post:
"orthodoxy of the parish."
Perhaps you could glean something from the parish bulletin if it is on-line? Cf. CatholicWeb.com

I would also check

www.masstimes.org

Of course, it doesn't get into the "orthodoxy" of the churches, but you can see things like "Eucharistic Adoration" and the like, which is an indicator.

We live on the southwest side of Columbus. Downtown you have St. Patrick's, which is a Dominican parish, and Holy Family, which has both Tridentine and N.O. masses.

St. Pat's has become the parish of choice for several in our homeschool group whose parishes have become a little fluffy. Since it's Dominican, folks can register there instead of their closest parish. Neat little loophole I never knew about before.

If you have the time, go to Holy Family's Jubilee Museum. It's wonderful and Fr. Lutz is very knowledgeable, good with kids, and has a great sense of humor. They will schedule tours for individuals, families, groups, just call (614) 461-6204.

On an entirely different note, if you have kids with you, make sure you go to COSI (Center of Science and Industry) which is also downtown. Tons of hands on fun for everyone from 0-whatever age. cosi.org will get you all the info you need.

Any other info, just email me at ray_good@hotmail.com

Thank you, Ray for your suggestions. I pulled up St. Patrick Church's Mass schedule and was dumbfounded to see that confessions are heard daily. I have never seen that before anywhere. It is nice to see that I have some nice options.  I also appreciate your "off topic" suggestion. My soon-to-be daughter-in-law suggested the science center, too. We hope to have some time for that, although scheduled activities might keep us from much sight seeing while we are in the area.

God bless.
