Did anyone see the movie There Will Be Blood?

What did you think of it?

Is it completely negative or was there a message in it that believers can consider usefully?

God bless,

NoelFitz.

Noel, I do not know if you have seen the Beverly Hillbillies which is a comedy in the same vein as There will be blood.  I usually am not interested in western action films unless they are starred in by Clint Eastwood. Most of the time I prefer the Beverly Hillbillies especially Jedd Clampett and Granny if watching western drama.  I found There will be blood to be too violent for my taste, I would rather watch the Greatest Story Ever Told depicting the life of Christ.

Noel, I dont know why but I detest all violence on television or in movies except Clint Eastwood movies and the life of Christ. I think Clint Eastwood is able to make violence seem more meaningful in some absurd way which is popular in the USA. Christ of course most definitely made violence done to Him meaningful for our salvation. I enjoy both movies of Christ or Clint Eastwood. I know that seems odd to say. I did not enjoy the movie you mention because mostly the characters were dull. Clint Eastwood does not seem dull to me.

Noel,

Flannery O'Conner's stories were very violent as well, but had a very strong Christian message.

I have not seen the film There Will Be Blood, but there is a bit of a negative Christian response out there over how the Christian preacher was protrayed.  I did read one thoughtful person's Christian interpretation of it here. Maybe that helps.

Thank you for your post.

The review you sent me ends with:

Dante would be proud.

I have been thinking about the movie since seeing it. If a good movie is one that provokes thought and upsets one, then There will be Blood is a good movie.

It may seem that both Daniel Plainview and Eli Sunday are revealed as  evil men with no redeeming features.

It may be a bleak, pessimistic movie.

However the thought remains that it may be true to life.

It has been claimed that at the start of every great fortune there is a great wrong.

Did people like the Rockefellers act similarly to Daniel?

It really is a powerful movie, as it raises serious issues about human motives.

God bless,

NoelFitz.

Noel, a colleague of mine, whose opinion I trust and value, saw the movie and thought it was perhaps one of the most thought provoking, spiritually stimulating and at the same time quite disturbing, movie he has seen in some time. Apparently there is a young girl who is always dressed in white named Mary. She is somewhat of a peripheral character that lends and eeriness to the film. Not really a main character but a screen presence that could be a parallel to Mary, the mother of Jesus. He highly recommends it.
