So I made a deal with a fundamentalist friend that if I would read all the articles on a website, she would read one book of my choice.

Firstly, check out the website...

Surprised A veritable library...

In any case... I was just wondering what book you would suggest for her.

Thanks!

Or if you knew of any websites like that except by Catholics for Protestants.

Thanks!

Hi FF,

The biggest site is www.catholic.com. They have tracts on myriad topics.

Much of the problem with discussions with other faith traditions is one of language. Take a look at this Mark Shea article: http://www.catholicexchange.com/node/7138

And specific to salvation and justification, again by Mark:

www.catholicexchange.com/node/53027

And check out http://www.biblechristiansociety.com/ John Martignoni's site, he hosts a call in show on EWTN radio.

Thats really scratching the surface, there are tons of other resources including anything by Scott Hahn, particularly his book on his conversion experience "Rome Sweet Rome". Audio lectures covering it can be found in several places.

Falcon: You could also try Fisheaters.com for a website. Going to the main page also yields some good info. Unfortunately, there is not one single good book for you to recommend. I can recommend Catholicism and Fundamentalism, by Keating to address specific points of contention or Orthodoxy, by Chesterton, which is a more autobiographical story of conversion. Mark Shea's By What Authority? should probably be on the list, too, since, to my mind, everything Christian rests on Catholic authority (The Bible, The Sacraments, The Eucharist, The Trinity...everything). Have fun, because there's a lot of great stuff out there. More will follow and I look forward to reading some of the suggestions that come out of this topic. In Christ, Michael

For a fundamentalist, I definitely recommend Keating's Catholicism and Fundamentalism as well!

After visiting this website I think Keating's "Catholicism and Fundamentalism" is a good choice.  I'm reading that book now and it is a great book.  Keating provides Biblical references to show his position and provides a great deal of historical support also.  And he is not afraid to provide quotes form distinguished protestant writers.  He them takes apart their position and shows the errors in their thinking and beliefs.

Faith, I'd wager the former Catholics, like Dr. Mizzi who started the website you listed, were woefully un-catechized in spite of their professed "good" Catholic upbringing. It's great that your friend has agreed to read a book of your choosing, but you also need to beware. Many a Catholic has been lured from the Church because of their own ignorance. I applaud you at your young age for stepping up to defend your faith. Don't ever be ashamed to admit you just don't know the answer if you are challenged. You've already shown your resourcefulness here, I'm sure you will always be able to provide an accurate response, even if you can't do so immediately. Those who would presume to try to "save" you from your Catholicism will do so with lots of biblical artillery. They can be quite convincing.

You Go Girl!!

And, another book to consider is "Catholic for a Reason" by Scott Hahn. You can also get his conversion story as well as other speakers on CD from the Mary Foundation (http://www.catholicity.com/cds/). Lighthouse Catholic Media (http://www.lighthousecatholicmedia.com/) has a CD of the Month club with some excellent material to help you grow in your understanding of the Catholic Church. I offer these resources to help you learn (it is so easy to listen in the car!). While the CDs can certainly be shared, remember, the best defense is a good offense!

"The Catholic Church frames the Christian life as one in which you must exercise virtue—not because virtue saves you, but because that's the way God's grace gets manifested." Dr. Francis J. Beckwith
