We're likely to need name recognition for the Veep seat, but no one of the prodigious caliber of the lady leading the ticket comes to mind. Remember, I love you, too Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, Pristinus Sapienter (wljewell @catholicexchange.com or ... yahoo.com)

Dream ticket:

Convert Barak Obama to Pro Life and I'd vote him in easily.  Since that wont happen, I'd take:

James Caviezel & Ozzie Guillen (If Ozzie can't run due to nationalization issues, I'd alternate Colin Powell or my wife Mrs. Kloss)

It is my hope that Newt Gingrich will  become a Republican Presidential candidate.  We need a candidate who can stand decisively for the traditional values and principles of the future of the American people.  Newt Gingrich has the intellectual gifts and fortitude to lead our country.

Like many Republican conservatives, I don’t feel certain that McCain, Giuliani, and Romney will sincerely champion my traditional values and principles.

RE:
"Barak Obama"
I think he is not presidential material.  His platform is tenuous and I would not trust him if he were to merely retreat from Federal regulation (facilitation) of abortion as I think he is entirely beholden to the liberal element in the country.

RE:

"Newt"
I do not believe he can stage a comeback.  The main thing to ask him before voting for him is what does he believe the main qualification for a federal judgeship should be.

RE: electability despite my reservations about Newt, I had intended that this just be a blue-sky venue.  If you could put any US citizen in office, who would you select? (My follow-up was going to be, is there anyone on the Canadian scene of comparable stature? Sooner or later there will have to be elections again, )

In your first post you listed: Liberman & RiceLiberman & HUtchinsonWalter Williams & RiceWalter Williams & Hutchinson

In recent years Senators have not won Presidential elections.

…do not believe he (Newt) can stage a comeback.

A comeback will not be easy but it's possible.  The mainstream media will oppose Newt Gingrich more vehemently than they opposed John Roberts and Samuel Alito.

The main thing to ask him before voting for him is what does he believe the main qualification for a federal judgeship should be.

This is also an important question for other candidates- Rodham-Clinton, Barack, McCain, Giuliani and Romney, etc.  Nevertheless, I feel confident that Newt Gingrich would nominate a US Supreme Court candidate who will support our country’s traditional values and principles especially in regard to protecting the unborn and traditional marriage.

despite my reservations about Newt, I had intended that this just be a blue-sky venue.  If you could put any US citizen in office, who would you select?

Here is where I'm sorely lacking in knowledge.

What does anyone know/think about Sen. Brownback?

All I know is one person that used to work on his team some years ago.

I think he is pro-life.  If it is possible to generate a base, perhaps through an internet campaign, the missing name recognition might be generated.

The question could be asked of those candidates but why would anyone believe the answer they gave?  Who killed Vince Foster?  Why?  How can anyone profit on the Mercantile Exchange the way Hillary did?  If it was her own expertise how is it that she didn't continue the investments to bail out the debt they had?  Giuliani has an anti-life history, Romney is not consistent in his values positions, McCain is not pro-life but I suppose we could expect him to make reasonable nominations.  Gotta run.

What about governor Richardson from New Mexico?

Anyone know his stance on abortion?

It is interesting that Gov Bill Richardson, NM, a Democrat, plans to announce his candidacy for President.  The mainstream news media doesn’t give much information about Gov. Richardson.  At this time only Hilary and Obama are getting a lot of media coverage.

I support Presidential candidate Sen. Sam Brownback because I feel that he will stand firm in his pro-life convictions.

What is the chance that a campaign by voters like us could raise Brownback's stature in the Republican party? What about Brownback and Michael Steele (former LT-Gov of Maryland and a conservative on social and economic issues)?

Newt Gingrich spoke with Dr. James Dobson - Focus on the Family online audio of March 9 Growing Threat of Radical Islam.  In the second half of the talk, Gingrich talks about falling short of his moral standards in the past that disappointed his supporters.  (I wish I could provide the online link to the talk.)

God loves you . Looks confessional, for a Baptist. He doesn't look like he is trying to avoid his guilt or need for repentance. I for one will believe that he is right with God and his own conscience. That said, I must prefer in a nearly supreme leader a man who is without two former marriages, on his third and with one or more infidelities to boot. Maybe I would stand-away over these things because I am another man; maybe you ladies can handle it better; maybe I could handle it better if a woman did these things, though I don't believe so. If a man is so repeatedly faulty in his domestic life, why should I trust him with what will affect the domestic lives of millions? Mary, thanks for the link.  I was attempting the high-tech way to hide the link.

PS, I agree with your comments.  Newt didn’t express sincere remorse in the audio.  It serves as a prime example that our wrongdoing (sin) affects us, our family, community and nation.

What a shame.  It’s too bad that a gifted, articulate man removes himself as possible presidential candidate.  Gingrich could debate a Democratic “elitist candidate”.  (The elitist theory is clear in the basic point that a minority, rather than the masses, controls things.)

His book, Rediscovering God in America: Reflect on the Role of Faith in Our Nation’s History and Future, is encouraging at a time when adversary groups threaten to remove God from public places.

Gingrich has positive ideas to keep citizens from becoming enslaved to government.

God loves you . Of course, it does not mean a humbly confessional Gingrich cannot help a more 'electable' candidate with debating support . . . For instance, Gingrich has a podium where such as Dr. Dobson cannot, and no American Catholic ordinary(-ies) seems willing to take a forthright pulpit on culture of life issues. Old Sigma,

Thank you for the link.  It’s helpful to read the text.

It will be interesting if Newt Gingrich formally announces his candidacy for President.  We’ll need a new thread for further discussion.  Meanwhile other Republican candidates will have the opportunity to gain momentum in their campaign.

Have a wonderfully blessed day.

God loves you . I am excited that former Senator of Tennessee Fred Thompson is looking at his fellow candidates with a close eye to electability on issues. At least, Thompson has 'presence' that even Giuliani does not have; and his 'presence' is of long, genuine experience, 'face' popularity and statemanlike gravitas. I would hope he joins in come autumn just to focus debates on issues rather than mutually-assured-destruction of personal politics. I think that all the Democrats will engage in that more and more, and Republicans can benefit by demurring, and truly debating. MAD-PP will rot and stink with the 'age' of this over-long campaign. The debates have to rise above and beyond that. So: Tennessee's Fred Thompson for President, 2008 and Mary Kochan for Secretary of the Treasury. Can you see her dragging this big bag around: 'What's in the bag, Ma'am?' 'All the money we've saved - I keep it with me so the darned politicians don't get a chance to count it once and spend it twice'. I met Senator Brownback in Washington DC at the Blogs for Life Conference, and posted on our meeting on my blog http://causa-nostrae-laetitiae.blogspot.com . He impressed me as completely committed to being a pro-life leader, and a leader on other unpopular issues as well, such as international human trafficking. He has reached accross the aisle to Ted Kennedy of all people to jointly sponsor a bill giving women who were pregnant with handicapped babies the full information about their child's condition, and future prospects. As the mother of a 5 year old with Down Syndrome, I can't believe this bill was defeated!

In short, Sam Brownback takes his newfound Catholicism seriously. (he converted in 2002 after reading Mother Teresa and John Paul II's writings as he recommended them for the Congressional Medal of Honor)

He stands where the Church stands on immigration(keep the borders secure, provide illegals a path for legalization) for example, though some conservatives won't vote for him because of that. I will!Smile

My dream team is Brownback-Huckabee!

RE: "Thompson"
I think he is an opportunist much in the same mold as "Slick Willie", just from the opposite side of the aisle.  Research on his voting record and what stances he took on important issues (such as what characteristics would he look for in a judge), before he stepped forward as a possible contender, is critical.

I think it's going to be Fred Thompson when it's all said and done. I think Rudy McRomney fall by the wayside rather quickly after Thompson allegedly announces around July 1. I only hope he picks the former Lt Gov of Maryland, Michael Steele. Michael Steele is Catholic, once attended Catholic Seminary, and no surprise...pro-life.
