Of course the world will end, but none of knows the day nor the hour. John Paul II was correct as well (per your quote of him), but so you do not become too down Viva, remember you are Roman Catholic first.
Nations (worldly powers) rise and fall; wax and wane. Just look at Italy, Spain, France, and even England. All were once superpowers, and while none are superpowers today, the folks who live there have decent lives etc.
My point is that while nations rise, rule, and retreat back to normalcy in a cycle of sorts, you can be certain the thing that will survive is God's word and His church.
In short, we can take comfort in undestanding that no matter what happens to the government of the USA, the Catholic Church will continue and "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
1913 "Participation" is the voluntary and generous engagement of a person in social interchange. It is necessary that all participate, each according to his position and role, in promoting the common good. This obligation is inherent in the dignity of the human person.
1914 Participation is achieved first of all by taking charge of the areas for which one assumes personal responsibility: by the care taken for the education of his family, by conscientious work, and so forth, man participates in the good of others and of society.31
1915 As far as possible citizens should take an active part in public life. the manner of this participation may vary from one country or culture to another. "One must pay tribute to those nations whose systems permit the largest possible number of the citizens to take part in public life in a climate of genuine freedom."32
1916 As with any ethical obligation, the participation of all in realizing the common good calls for a continually renewed conversion of the social partners. Fraud and other subterfuges, by which some people evade the constraints of the law and the prescriptions of societal obligation, must be firmly condemned because they are incompatible with the requirements of justice. Much care should be taken to promote institutions that improve the conditions of human life.33
1917 It is incumbent on those who exercise authority to strengthen the values that inspire the confidence of the members of the group and encourage them to put themselves at the service of others. Participation begins with education and culture. "One is entitled to think that the future of humanity is in the hands of those who are capable of providing the generations to come with reasons for life and optimism."34

"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain." Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Viva il Papa! We Love B16, and we miss JP2
Please do not misunderstand me; I am not advocating any sort of apathy, non-participation in, or withdrawal from society. I think we need to be engaged in society and always try our best, but at the same time I can't go for claiming 'the sky is falling' just because the politics of the day go against us.
Part of being Christian is to be optimistic; we should be so because we are fortunate enough to know about and have faith in Almighty God.
I do not like old Shrillary any more than you do, but I simply would not worry as much as you seem to.
with 45 million dead and counting, I think it's way past time to just worry, and time to break out the sackcloth and ashes.
"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain." Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Viva il Papa! We Love B16, and we miss JP2
You are correct of course, in that 45 million+ is horrible beyond belief. The question then is, how should we set about changing the minds of the people of this nation?
It seems the problem is multi-faceted, and in the end - as we did with both slavery and later with segregation - after all efforts to educate, cajole, and convince are exhausted, the majority would simply change the laws and let the minority that still holds the old view come by experience to see how they were wrong or in any case, to understand the new law. Many southerners still thought segregation was Ok when we passed the Civil Rights Act (1964), but they simply had to accept the will of the majority and adjust their behavior to live under the new law. Keep in mind the abolitionists worked for more than one hundred years just to get slavery outlawed. We have been at this for forty-some years now, and we have a ways to go.
The first thing we need to do is pray, then we must be patient, non-violent, and we must really work politically and otherwise under the system we have in this great country. We need to use education and cultural and political alliances of all sorts to change the opinion of our compatriots in order to end this savage, selfish, and diabolical practice:
Pray - Pray, and Pray more for mercy and guidance.
Education - Educate our children to understand how valuable each person is, and why they are so valuable.
Political Alliances - Vote Pro Life - Always; regardless of party or your other personal interests. We need to work especially with groups that advocate non-violence, human rights, and those that work toward protecting animals and the environment.
Religious Alliances - Greek Orthodox, Evangelicals, Jews, Muslims, Like-minded Protestants, Buhdists; none of these groups like abortion, and we need to set aside our differences and work with them on this.
Cultural Alliances - Mexicans, Blacks, Arabs, Jews, Ukranians, Ethiopians, Vietnamese, and many other immigrant groups do not go in for abortion; we need to set aside any differences we might have and work with them on this.
Professional Alliances - Psychologists and therapists who work with post-abortion women, medical doctors and universities, scientists, imaging engineers, news media, etc.
International - We need to work with any country or people in this world who wants to end abortion.
In short, we need to pray, pray, and pray for mercy, and all the while we really keep an open mind and work with whomever will work with us to change this awful practice.
Imagine, what would you say to the following two candidateS
A - One advocates a steep gax tax (to protect environment), an end to the death penalty, is pro-Business, and who is pro-life?
B - One advocates for no gas tax, a flat income tax, keeping the death penalty, and is pro-Labor, but is pro-choice.
I would have to vote for candidate A. While I may not think the death penalty should be outlawed, and I do not like taxes, and I am a union man, I would nevertheless need to vote for candiate A, because Life trumps the other considerations. I can live with taxes, and I can live with paying to house a murderer, and I can manage with pro-Business types, but I cannot abide murdering babies, the infirm, or old people.
What we need to worry about, is absolutely nothing.
Gospel: "Take no thought for tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself" "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof"
Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly
Peace is "solidness" in the turmoil around. Stand in the Center of the Hurricane, the "eye" and all is calm.
What does this really say?
Forget the nonsense of the world and walk with God. It is just alot of noise from those who don't care about Heaven. They want someone to care about their cause which is worthless and will end.
Where your heart is there will your treasure be. Put your heart in God for He is in Heaven.
Peace be with you
I think that the Iraq war will lead to the end of the American hegemony in the world. The world is not ending however, just because US ends.
The end of the world is not a good thing if millions, billions of souls are unprepared, and the Church has not lived up to its responsibilities.
