I find this article intriguing because it seems politicians are seeking the Christian audience.  It seems they realize that the Imperialist America was founded by Anglos and not the other races.

RE: "It seems they realize that the Imperialist America was founded by Anglos and not the other races. "
What was it in the article that makes you conclude that?  I didn't find anything.

Politicians in America, unless they come out of an indigenous community, don't even realize the non-Anglos who were significant in American history, let alone speak to them.  (The black population excepted as the Democrats constantly pander to that demographic.)  The issue with immigration today, is a major anomaly even though it was raised back in the 30's.

God loves you . Boy, pouliot, you are dense today - His 'imperialist America' remark reflects on these America bashers and their bogus ideas. But, for votes, to given audiences, most (Democratic or Republican) politicians will pander to the racial characteristics of the listening crowd. That said, you'd have to dig deep to find 'the Spanish-American founding patriot', wouldn't you? Pouliot,

My phrasing has thrown you in the wrong direction.

I was merely stating that maybe their eyes are opening?  Is this nation going to maintain mixed melting pot to the fullest or will the Anglos decide they've had enough of outside influences within the hierarchy of Government?  Not sure as one side fights the other for supremacy.

Wljewell is spot on.  Thanks.

I think that only when Democrats lose enough elections will they realize they need the Catholic vote.

I do not know why this seems so difficult for Democrat strategists, but the fact is while they probably would have problems attracting many of the more strict Protestants in any case, if the Democrat party did not push the anti-life agenda (abortion, euthanasia, eugenics, embryonic stem cell science, and the like) a quick browse of Catholic social justice ideas and notions would show they should be able to find quite a few natural allies among Catholics workers.

I am a union electrician, and if Democrats dropped their support for abortion and other anti-life agendas and put some effort into pushing the issues that affect working men, I would be more inclined to vote for them.  However as it stands, I usually vote Republican.

I am not saying that if the Democrats change their ways I would immediately jump to vote for them.  I am only saying that if they change their ways I would consider voting for them.  The way it is now, unless I know a particular Democrat is pro-life, I generally do not even consider voting for Democrats.

Still, Democrats getting me and guys like me to consider voting for them is a big step, one that sadly - sad for thier souls, sad for the aborted babies, and for the soul of this nation - I do not see them taking for a long time to come.

God loves you . But, KenB, this cuts both ways - the Catholic population of the United States should be such a principled bloc, every politician at every level has to consider them in HIS or her principles. some issues I can see besides the prominent ones

are

printing money

Iraq, Afghanistan, economy,  gas+oil,  republicans aren't fairing so well in these categories.

Take God out of the equation and you have hell bound souls.

Well in any case, I always try to vote for the Pro-Life candidate, which nowadays usually means the Republican candidate.

I simply do not understand - from a strategic point of view - why Democrats do not see what they have lost.  They lost most of the Catholic vote, and much of the Christian vote, and are well on their way to losing the average working man's vote.

By their encoraging abortion, euthanasia, this new eugenics of embryonic stem cell science, gay marriage, and ignorant base behavior among minorities by waltzing along with the druggies and rappers and other low-brow types, by basically being cynical of the nuclear family and things decent and wholesome, by promoting these and many other things that really tear at the fabric of stable family life, I think Democrats and other leftists have done a huge amount of damage to this country since 1970 and unless they change their ways, I cannot in good conscience vote for them.

The way I see it, socialists and other leftists, secular humanists and atheists and your basic low-brow people somehow took over control of the once great Democrat party, and time will tell if the decent people can wrest control of it away from them in time to prevent the party from either dragging this nation into a catastophe or dragging itself down into obscurity and becoming the late-great Democrat party.

I do remember, the rigging party for Bush to win.

And the way I've heard it, it really doesn't matter which party is head, because they are just puppets.

All of America is "the" audience while the puppets dance around on stage by the puppeteers.

Pray for conversion of souls. Pray for Christ to return soon.

This registered but disenchanted Catholic Republican will vote Democrat next time around. The Party of Lincoln has been hijacked by a bunch of neo-con warmongers whose main interest is oil, empire and Israel. The Democratic part,on the other hand and for the most part, reflects best the social encyclicals of our Church - something the Republicans today ignore completely: social justice, care for the poor, care for health and welfare of those most in need, our stewardship of the environment The war criminals in the present administration have led us into an unjust and immoral war that cries out to Heaven for justice. The plight of our Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East, in Iraq and especially in the Occupied Territories is ignored. The Israeli apartheid and racist policies toward the Palestinians are ignored in spite of the cries for help from the various religious leaders in the Holy Land led by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

recross,

You make some very challenging points. Evil abounds, but we must consider proportion, mustn't we?

The Democrats are 100% behind abortion on demand, which claims the lives of some four thousand innocent human beings each day in this country.

The wars in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and for that matter the first Gulf War, Panama, Granada, Viet Nam, Korea, WWII, WWI,and the Civil War do not add up to this slaughter.

recross,

true.  what will you do if we run out of oil? can you drive a car on water? (yes, it was actually done some years back)

The thing is this the government is a sham.  They prance around making like our country is hurting for oil and gas while the oil and gas companies rake in the big bucks to pay for the next campaign.  It really doesn't matter which side is head cheese because they all report to the same group.  Splitting hairs, one side poses this and the other side poses that, mixing and alternating to keep change but really no change just flip flopping to keep the money flowing for their expensive habits.

True government is boring work, this government realized the headache long ago and said ah we'll pretend.  Good for the history books.  It will all be over soon and they will get there just reward.  take a look at what they've accomplished in country.  Nothing.  If this government was really interested in the lives of it's citizens like true virtuous people the world would be a better place.  would it not?

But because they are playing the game and self comes first they do their best to shift things around.  Vote for Christ.

Recross, I do not accept your argument, and I agree with Protect-Rock that abortion kills far more than any war in which we have been engaged.  Like the institution of slavery in years past, abortion is I think, the great social evil of our time.  Bokuto, you are simply too cynical and sour - lighten up and enjoy life : )

Recross, while I also agree with Democrats on the need to promote social justice and help the poor, and I want out of this Iraq war asap, I have serious disagreements with Democrats' ideas about abortion, euthanasia and this (seemingly eugenics-lite) embroyonic stem cell and other genetic sciences.

I do not think we help the poor by advising them to kill their children or to put old grandpa down with a morphine injection because he wets the bed or otherwise burdens the family.  I do not believe in killing children because they are retarded or otherwise handicapped.  And I do not think it right to take what otherwise would have grown into a normal human being and tinker genetically with them and so deform them that they only grow into a liver or a pancreas afterwhich - instead of growing up and enjoying life - they are transplanted into some wealthy, aging booze hound where they toil in service to the host person as a bodily organ until the host person dies.  How horrid.  I also do not like the idea of cloning people for special characteristics, like cloning men genetically designed to be soldiers.  I understand this is not currently possible, but science like this always progresses and my gosh, with secular amoral types like this playing god, what a nightmarish world this seems to portend.

The pure-capitalist darwinian types on the far-right are also way too greedy, materialistic and amoral, but I have real problems with the atheistic secular far-left types who would play god like this (as described above), and who in recent years seem to have taken over the once great Democrat party.

There is such a thing as objective truth; the end never justifies the means, and we should aways try to see that Christian love and charity prevail.
