Yesterday, having just finished posting the nearby thread "A Question for Three Groups of Americans", I turned attention to ground mail received here shortly earlier. Interestingly, it contained a request for financial support of the congressional campaign (in a state, not my own) of a recently retired military man. I sensed from the accompanying materials that the man might be motivated by sincere Christian principles and might be a very good alternative to others who might gain the seat for which he will contend.
So, by letter to him today, copy below, I tested what I had just advocated in the nearby post:
***
Dear Mr. (the candidate),
I’ve received your mailing asking support of your intended run for congress. I’m impressed by its general thrust and - while not a resident of your State - am inclined (within my quite moderate means) to be a supporter of your effort, contingent upon my more specific knowledge of your attitude and intentions with regard to the dignity of human life.
Accordingly, I have duplicated, and attached hereto, a post from Catholic Exchange that poses - to three groups of Americans - a question about the dignity of human life.
Would you, a declared member of Group 1 as defined in the attachment, please advise me what your response would be, so that I may know how I should view my supporting you?
I thank you for your consideration of this matter and wish you good fortune in contributing to the future good of our country, as your military service has done in the past.
Pending my hearing from you, I'll retain all your soliciting materials.
Sincerely,
(Signed)
