It is very true that we must vote, not only for the most moral candidate, but must take into consideration who is most likely to win.  A good Catholic can not vote for Guiliani.  There are many good Catholics with good intensions trying to make the best decision in the primaries and it is difficult to decide.  Huckabee is the most moral, pro-life candidate we have, but will he win?  Romney, on the other hand, is the worse choice we have after Guiliani.  He has been caught lieing publicly over and over.  He was caught lieing about his father.  I don't remember exactly, but I think he said his father worked with Martin Luther.  Then when confronted with the truth on National television that he lied he answered, well, my father would have if he had the opportunity.  I do not believe that the logic of voting for Romney because he is more likely to beat Guiliani is a good choice.  I think Romney is not well liked and it is well known that he is a lier.  His voting record is pro-abortion.  He allowed abortions for $50 in Mass. health care, he forced judges to marry gays and is in favor of hate crimes that make it a crime to speak in favor of our Catholic Churches beliefs that marriage is for one man, one women, he lobbied for planned parenthood.  He is not pro-life, he is not pro-family!  He also said he converted to pro-life because of stem cell research and yet if you do a search online, you will find that he is in favor of embryonic stem cell research.  His basic reason for his conversion is a lie!!  He is lieing because he knows he will not win the Republican nominatation if he is not pro-life.   My election prayer is that God defeats all enemies of the unborn.  The old testament is full of examples of small, weak armies winning when God is on their side.  Huckabee appears not to be the strongest candidate, but God often chooses the weak to confound the proud.

If I'm not mistaken, Huckabee may be prolife, but he also supports embryonic stem cell research.  (I'm trying to remember where I read that to put in a link...)

I haven't heard much discussion here about McCain.  I believe he's a little more liberal socially, yet claims to be prolife?  It's all so confusing.

Hillary?  Obama?  Edwards?  Huckabee?  Romney?  Guiliani?  McCain?

I have not decided on my poison yet.  Maybe I should pray and fast over the decision.  I do hope I follow through on my good intentions.  NJ holds its presidential primary on February 5.  I better get busy.

GK,

Pray and fast after the nation makes its decision as well. None of the above are God-fearing enough.

May your supplications, added to those of all the faithful, be likened to Daniel and other great people who offered prayer and sacrifice for the nation. May God hear our plea and raise up those who will honor and uphold all that is true and righteous, convert the obstinate heart, or, send us back His Son and be done with it. Amen.

Remember, the Sun is always shining!

What makes you think Huck is the most moral?  More homework to be done, I think.  Duncan Hunter is a good Catholic and right on almost all the issues.  Thompson is not perfect but much more preferable than the Huck.

God loves you . Catholic Answers has a booklet about voting that should be in every Catholic's hands: Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics (http://www.caaction.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=54&Itemid=95). The pamphlet is no shill for any faction, but what a Catholic should be guided by, in culture of life terms. I bought a hundred in 2004 to stuff in the church pamphlet rack - suggesting 50 cents to the poor box as payment. This year, I may look to accumulate more for the rack. However, they also offer a bulletin insert covering the same issues. The bulletin can be downloaded gratis, and printed for parish bulletin use. Maybe, it should be used twice: now, in primary season; later, just after the party conventions, when the 'lucky' candidates are politicking in earnest. And, hence, whatever worldly noise happens, Catholics have a certain guide for giving every candidate a good look. Remember, I love you, too .
