Yes, Virginia, We Do Still Have ‘I will’ from I AM.

God loves you . Perhaps, the 2008 election more than any in memory needs most to be driven by the voters, and on, beyond, into any administration with which we are ‘saddled’. That is to say, the still-fairly-rational-and-moral majority must saddle and steer our representative government rather than have it autocratically ride us. A couple of topics to keep in mind are the following.
‘The federal government recorded a $1.3 trillion shortfall last year, far outpacing the official $248 billion deficit . . . If we use corporate-style accounting standards, our government is hiding trillions in debt liability — amounting to an astonishing $516,000 per U.S. household . . . If our government were a business or an individual, it would be bankrupt. . . . ‘Democracies existed for approximately 200 years and follow the sequence — from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, and from dependence back into bondage.’
That last is a compact guiding-principles overview of the fairly short history from Schiller’s Germany to Hitler’s (and Bismarck’s and the EU’s) Germany. For our modern nation, to view and absorb the actual number, that hidden debt is over $65,000,000,000,000, and rising. A deficit that mars an annual budget is one thing; the debt that can sink a nation is another; and we can see the level of our dependence become the shackles of our bondage. If the link succeeds, see the whole thing at http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/6/21/143657.shtml titled One Reporter's Opinion — Federal Spending Is Out of Control, by George Putnam on June 21, 2007. Further
’The standard governmental progression — start with [some] small system — then let it expand like crazy and make sure that attempts at reform ([in reference to immigration] such as the 1986 Immigration Control and Reform Act) just make the problem worse. It also helps the madness when the government refuses to enforce the laws. . . . There are endless parallels to government healthcare. The same "nothing succeeds like the right kind of failure" approach. Advocates of state medicine, like advocates of unrestricted immigration, not only don't care how much harm they do — they positively intend it as a way of generating crises that the government can "fix." 'What we see is a failure of politicians to deliver sound and sensible [among other examples] healthcare and immigration policy. The elected are more concerned with their profits, power and prestige than with your health, safety and survival. Now, this is both heartless and immoral . . . The results are the insane circle of insanity. Fix it, make it worse and fix it again.’
How DARE any notice this, and distrust, eh? Take a look at this whole article at http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/6/12/125349.shtml titled A History of Broken Policies, By Michael Arnold Glueck and Robert J. Cihak, (‘The Medicine Men’) on June 12, 2007 Yet, all is not lost. We have ‘I will’ from I AM. An ancient call and promise is reminded by Jerry Falwell’s son, Jonathan, in ’Recalling America's Christian Foundation’, of June 15, 2007 at http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/6/15/134042.shtml That reminder, from II Chronicles 7:14:
"If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
. . . a great promise from a great God — a God who hears us, loves us, deeply desires to forgive us and heal us. But we must seek Him out in prayer. His son, Jesus Christ, is the source of our hope. And we can only claim His promises, His hope, His deliverance to once again bless America!

RE: "saddling the Government"
Yes.  Definitely the thing to do.

How?

Now there's the rub,

Who will bell the cat?

The politicians are ignoring the majority of the people on the immigration issue.

Gingrich's steps don't have a prayer.  One has to wonder if George's sister-in-law exerts excessive influence on him.

God loves you . Flood Senate telephones regularly, is a good start . . . Call your fed Rep and/or Senator collect and when 'he/she is busy' tell them you'll wait on the line until he can come to the phone. In such as this, log times, answers, being ignored, etc., and write to your local editor about it, and message it at the Rep's own web-site. Every letter/message to your Rep, demand an answer. No answer in a week, send another copy demanding an answer. Again, log results and try to get those results out, however they reflect on the politician. You can also cc his party leadership and most-local rival in the House or Senate. And, if you fax, fax his leadership as well as him. Any attention given to you, thank him for it. Let others know his responses and how well he responds. 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.' It is necessary for Wash.D.C. (and the state capitals) to remember who 'the lord' is here, person to person, in the political realm of the world.
