As I consider that at present very few are looking at this round-table, may I revisit one of my hobby horses?

I consider that in choosing whom to beatify and canonize the Church reveals its bias against the married state. Please see below.

These people are noted first of all as virgins. Their sanctity or contributions to the Church are not noted.

Even the Blessed Virgin Mary is noted usually for her virginity, rather than her motherhood of God.

However in the 'Hail Mary' the emphasis is correct:
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.

If there is anyone out there, would (s)he like to reply?

noel , what makes you think it is a bias.
How do you know that there are not simply more unmarried people who live saintly lives. Paul wrote that it was easier to be a saint if you were unmarried. did he not?

Good question you ask me.
I would have imagined that without a bias, due to their greater number, statistically married saints are under-represented among those canonized.

I imagine you are referring to 1 Cor.

"25 Now concerning virgins, I have no command of the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. 26 I think that, in view of the impendinge crisis, it is well for you to remain as you are. 27 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. 28 But if you marry, you do not sin, and if a virgin marries, she does not sin....
32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; 33 but the married man is anxious about the affairs of the world, how to please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to put any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and unhindered devotion to the Lord....
38 So then, he who marries his fiancéej does well; and he who refrains from marriage will do better."
The Holy Bible : New Revised Standard Version, 1 Co 7:25-38 (part)(Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1989).

Well, I think you need to broaden what you are looking at to the whole of chapter 7 because 1 - 25 have a intragral relationship to the rest , establishing a precident for it.

trent said this about the matter:
http://history.hanover.edu/texts/trent/trentall.html

CANON X.-If any one saith, that the marriage state is to be placed above the state of virginity, or of celibacy, and that it is not better and more blessed to remain in virginity, or in celibacy, than to be united in matrimony; let him be anathema.

You should read all the cannon on marraige they are very intresting and still very much in force.
