If any Catholic has any doubt about where the presumptive Presidential Democrat nominee, Barak Obama, stands on the RTL issues, please read the article in link below. I would say he is not "pro-choice", but better decsribed as anti-life and pro-abortion. He is to the left of some of the more liberal Democrats that have positions on this issue, including HRC.

I am amazed that somehow this man is still vying for the so called Catholic vote.

the problem is that many of them are 'so called' catholics and that won't change till the bishops start excommunicating people.

Fishman-Amen. I think the Holy Father himself while visiting the US alluded that he would be comfortable with a smaller flock if that flock was faithful to the teaching of Jesus Christ. Maybe we are at that point? In this age of technology, especially in the US, every adult Catholic has access to and should be aware of the teachings of the Church. Yes, the bishops must constantly remind the flock, but don't individuals also have responsibility here. If you are a pro-abortion (or as they and media like to call pro-choice Catholic), I can't imagine that they belive this is acceptable teaching of the Church. Assuming they know this to be true, then they have rejected the Church and rejected Jesus. This then becomes a personal matter for them to consider hopefully with a priest that also hopefully leads to reconciliation. But, in this sense the onus is on them as it is with any of us when we reject the Lord.

I understand what you are saying. The reason we really need to see at least a few high profile excumunicatons is to protect the flock. We really need the bishops to send a strong message that it is NOT acceptable to privaltly ( little lone publicly, support abortion).

A good first step would be excommunicating all polticians who claim to be catholic and pro-choice. A clear statement should be made that there simply is no such thing and that a catholic does not have right to have two seperate lives. One in the church and one outside of it. As if the church is some form of entertainment.
