As no one reads these posts am I really writing to myself?

Today (Saturday) at Mass the priest gave the congregation great insights.

He said that we have heard about the simple faith of simple people. However often that simple faith was very profound. So whether we have a simple or a compound faith we should pray that it is a deep one.

The priest noted that Fr Michael Paul Gallagher wrote that faith never changes, but the way it is expressed depends on context, and we should have a faith suitable for this century.

Fr Michael Paul Gallagher SJ is a former University College Dublin lecturer in English, who later became Dean of Theology in the Gregorian University in Rome. He is a well known writer and the congregsation would have known about him.

If anyone is there will (s)he please say "Hello".

God bless,

Noelfitz.

Noel:

You're not alone per se. I read the posts but often only have a couple of minutes...little time to compose a thoughtful reply.

Did you receive an explanation for what "a faith suitable for this century" might mean? I'm curious about that statement.

In Christ and with you still,
Michael

Hi Noel-Like michaelme, I only get to check in once in a while, but I do read the posts. I'm not sure I fully understand what your priest was trying to get across. Faith is a gift from God and I think like any gift, we need to open it and use it. The more we do this, I think the more it grows. I'm not sure if there are varying degrees of faith that God gives as a gift? So I guess your priest is correct in saying the gift itself never changes, but perhaps we change as we recognize the power of this gift and use it more in our lives?
