Recently I became aware of the Theology of the Body section in CE, but I could not find a way to interact with it.

Is there any way I can participae with the Theology of the Body group of CE?

Is it interested in stem cell research?

God bless,
Noelfitz.

Great to hear from you.

I am becoming dejected due to the lack of communication in CE recently.

Recently the Irish Council for Bioethics produced an outrageous and dishonest "Opinion", proposing embryonic stem cell research in Ireland.

I would like to contribute to the debate about this in Ireland. To do this I would like to be more informed.

CE have a section on the Theology of the Body. It is very poor, as interaction seems impossible. The professional seems weak. The highest qualification of the contributors is a Masters (as far as I can see). There is no one qualified in science or medicine involved.

Some time ago I read of priests/professors setting up a group in CE to discuss bioethics. Did anything become of theis initiative?

Basically, how can I follow up my interest in (embryonic) stem cell resaerch in CE?

God bless,
Noelfitz.

Dado,

many thanks for your post.

I haver glanced at the web sites you sent to me. They seem exactly what I want, being medically, scientifically, philosophically and morally sound.

I will study them carefully.

The Irish Council for Bioethics recently brought out an "Opinion", which is disgraceful (http://www.bioethics.ie/pdfs/StemCellReport.pdf).

However I have spoken to some reliable friends and they tell me it is so bad it will have little effect. In fact the ICB does not seeem very influential.

Arising from the Opinion I decided I should try to get more informed about bioethics in general and stem cell research in particular.

Maybe when we all settle down it could become a topic for us to consider.

I still have not heard much about the Theology of the Body in CE.

God bless,
Noelfitz.

I haven't seen loretta around here in a while ,but I believe here degree is microbiology so she might be able to help you things as well.

I'm somewhat ( not on a professional level , but for the purposes of being well informed) well read on this topic.

Basically there are two types of stem cells. Those that are taken from fetus or those that are taken from adults. There is currently no evidence that there is any great need to use any other then the ones taken from adults because they are easier to obtain and although not quite as flexible , there has been significant progress made on making them so.

The extra flexibility doesn't hold any extra promise in curing decease only a short cut to the research process.

There is a great deal of possible medical advancements if we come to understand and use stem cells. However it is of coarse morally wrong to create fertilized human eggs and then grow them , for the purposes of destroying them.

What is it specifically you want to know. given more time I can try to find sources to site as well.

I agree with your post.

I just wanted to have discussions about stem cell research to become more aware of the issues involved.
God bless,
Noelfitz.
