It's curious to me that CE is promoting Fireproof:never leave a partner behind. The movie was produced by Sherwood Pictures - Sherwood Baptist Church, Albany, GA - who has a preacher who regularly preaches anti-catholic messages. Not just preaches their doctrine (which by default is anti-catholic) - but preaches "we're not like those catholics..." kind of stuff. As much as I am a big supporter of Christian movies - I won't see this nor their other "Facing the Giants" movie. Why do we want to support these kinds of anti-catholic ministries????

Where did you see the promo?
Is it possible that it was the Google-linked promos that show up after some of the articles? Those are not chosen by CE, but placed there as an ad by Google. It is definitely a negative aspect of relying on Google's products.

The promo arrived in my email from Catholic Exchange email address appeals@catholicexchange.com subject: Special offer for CE readers: Free Film Screenings for Catholic Leaders this Summer! The body was a movie poster with links for the film referenced above. It mentions the Maximus Group (I am unsure how they relate to CE). The type suggests as a Catholic Leader I am invited to one of these special events. The unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email body is to announce.catholicexchange.com

I'm not militant, just trying to be a good consumer. I live in the Albany, GA area and Sherwood Baptist is growing by leaps and bounds. While the movies may or may not be anti-catholic per se, the message from their pulpit absolutely is.
Thanks for your reply.

That makes (some) sense.
CE did "Champions of Faith" and the Maximus Group (I think) is the promotional company for "Champions of Faith" so Maximus may also be cross-referencing other things that the Maximus Group are promoting.

I'll forward this to CE editors to see what they know.

lpenrodstock,
Just trying to follow through. I have done a pretty intense internet search on the church and the pastor looking for online evidence of an anti-Catholic rhetoric. Having originally come from the south, I do not doubt that such a thing is possible. But I can't find evidence in this specific case. Any direction or more information you could give would be appreciated.

Thanks for taking me so seriously. And yes, it is the south, and goodness knows, it is primarily a hostile environment to Catholics, however, with the influx of others since the advent of air conditioning the climate is changing and finally here in Southwest Georgia. I live in the Albany area, and I watch Michael Catt on local tv regularly (I am a teacher, and many of my middle school students "quote" their pastor regarding Catholics - I try to stay informed). Notwithstanding, I hear him on local tv. Understandably, this may be a small audience. However, I stand by my initial concern. This Pastor of this growing body preaches HOSTILE anti-Catholic rhetoric often (and guest preachers during revivals - even more so).

If you would like more documentation than my word, I'll be happy to help. I just think it's inappropriate for Catholic Exchange to support this growing media. It's principle. Thanks again, for taking my concerns to heart.

After concerted prayer and pondering these things in my heart, I realize I have become engaged in a "well, we don't see it, so therefore, we have limited liability", or "it's the group we associate with", "it doesn't really matter" etc.

I have become the voice in the wilderness....some, will just choose not to listen (what would St. John do if there had been the internet to make more palatable his "Repent").

I did not document at the time, because I felt called to pray for the preacher, but the visiting HERALDED preacher at a revival last year said (I paraphrase - because the impact was horrifying)....EVEN THE POPE CAN'T GET THE VOTES to be a SAINT....hahahahah....(referring to our beloved John Paul II)....I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A COMMITTEE TO VOTE ON ME. WE are SAINTS

etc. etc. I began praying and looking for lightening.

You may call this ignorant. I do, too. But that ignorance took a pulpit, preaching to the lost, and ATTACKING the HOLY CHURCH. And THEY ARE NOW PRODUCING MOVIES that are being bought by SONY who also PRODUCES or DISTRIBUTES harmful movies to the soul........

You decide. I informed.

I'm only the (volunteer) moderator of the forums.

I in no way represent Catholic Exchange's policy, marketing, or any other business aspect. However, I do know how swamped they are. So I was trying to gather information to present to them to help them in any informed decision.

Therefore, I asked you for more information because I (in my limited time and knowledge) did as much internet searching as I possibly could, and couldn't come up with anything to give to them. You seemed to know much more about it, so I asked you for whatever more information you could give to me.

It seemed logical to me at the time.
Maybe I should have been praying and looking for lightening?

Fireproof has been discussed in Catholic Answers.

Does the movie itself have any anti-catholic sentiment? You can't get much off a teaser trailer, but if it doesn't then I think it may be a real good movie.

I have seen Fireproof, there is no anti-catholic sentiment in the movie. It is about a forty day journal inwhich to save a marriage. The idea is ti fireproof marriages.

I have not seen the material of the journal used in the movie, that material could have such a sentiment in it, if one was to get it.
