Recently I've started thinking more deeply about what we know and how we know it.

I'd love to hear from those on the board.

What does it mean to know something?
How can you know something?
Can you be certain of anything?
If you can how.

"but test everything; hold fast what is good" (1Thessalonians 5:21)

The Lord has left us with the Decalogue through which not only to "know" how each of us must act, but also to inform discernment of all actions for good and God's glory, or for sin and evil and perdition. Knowing God's Commandments is a vital first step to all knowledge, and thence to truth, and thence to eternal love.

We must measure by means of the yardsticks we are given in revelation and tradition. These yardsticks are gifts from God precisely that we know, in them, of them, through them.

From God's love we trust that He will not leave us alone to take on the plethora of data that flows about us. Hence, prayer is another means to get to know, for God's answers are for our true knowledge.

These are difficult questions.

I really do not know if one can solve all the problems in epistimology with a few sound bites.

However it is great to have discussions here.

God bless,
Noelfitz.

well, I wasn't hoping for a few sound bites, but for some stimulating discussion.

There is catholic teaching on some of these, but Theologians have always used natural data as a starting point for their work.

I have to wonder if some of the modern scientific discoveries , such as the quantum mechanics or cognition theory cannot be brought to bear on the problems of existence, the mind and knowing.

For instance most modern physics theories are worked out in more then 4 dimensions. The 4 observable dimensions( height, width, depth and time) and a 5th dimension that is needed to make the math work out correctly.

( sometimes there are more like 8 or 12 dimensions).

The consequence of this is that the hidden dimension is assumed to have never left the quantum singularity where the big bang started from. The further consequence being that all points in space and time are connected to each other via a single point in space and time.

Above this sentence was the generally accepted science of modern physics below it is my conjecture.

What would be the properties of a being who could live within that quantum singularity.
1) they would be like nothing we have ever encountered
2) assuming it or they could see it's and interact with its environment it would be able to see and interact with everthing that is was or ever will be simutaniosly.

In short the being would be omniscient and omnipotent.
