what does the word same mean.

do catholics as muslims worship the 'same' God?
I have to agree that both of us claim the God of abraham as the God we worship and in that aspect we worship the 'same' God.

But we also claim that the God of abraham is a triun reality and that the son of God became human and was given the name Jesus.

the muslims believe our understanding of God is basophomy.

So my question is , how different do two concepts need to be in order to no longer be called the 'same'.

this word seems very illusive in the english language.

at it's broadest it can indicate any two things with an intersection of at least one characteristic. at it's narrowest it means two things that are identical in every way.

I know it is just a simantic difference, but it seems that a better word to describe the God worshiped by christains and the allah of the muhamidites would be simlar God. or perhaps the being is in fact the same, but then a christian must immediately note that the followers of islam worship what they do not understand.

I've had a similar debate with a friend about weather or not the resurected body will be the 'same' body we have now. Certainly it will be transformed and be a glorified body, but in the gosphels Jesus shows his hands too thomas, was he decieving thomas or were those the same hands that had the nails pushed through them. Is the glorified body still composed of matter and in what way is that matter still the 'same' as the matter that composed it before death?

There's a reason that God "IDs" himself to Moses NOT as "The God of Abraham" but as "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

Great question.

This is like old times with debates about our faith.

The priest at Mass a few days ago discussed the resurrected body. He said we do not know what it will be like. That is OK for me.

I believe Catholics, Protestand and Orthodox, in fact all Christians, along with Jews and Muslims worship the same God.

"There is no God but God".

These are the three great monotheistic religions. But for Christians there are three persons in the one God.

Please pray for my family at this time.

Thanks.

Noel, for your family, my day's prayers . . .

I think if you lined up a party for religious discussions between any Protestant, an Orthodox person, a Catholic, a Muslim and even an Orthodox Jew, we'd all pretty well agree with each other on God in His goodness, and our need for Him in order to have goodness, ourselves.

I have to think that that is what Benedict XVI means when he offers his Ramadan greetings to Muslims - that we have so much in common, can it be anything or anyone but God Who holds us in such esteemed alikeness?

lpioch, your brief declaration is cryptic to me - please elaborate.

I looked into my trusty People's Prayerbook to pray for the worthy and gentle NoelFitz, and found one prayer for a family next to a prayer for a friend. So appropriate, I said both.

Then, as I was about to start a Rosary with our Noel in mind, the Spirit struck again - and gave me, after He helped get it right, this prayer. I call it 'A NoelFitz Prayer', of course. I finished the Rosary, and now give you the prayer.

Save us, dear God,
to Thy infinite glory –
for Thy eternal Kingdom –
with Thy measureless graces –
through Thy bottomless mercy –
from Thy worthy justice –
in Thy full truth –
under Thy wise authority –
within Thy perfect will –
by Thy boundless goodness –
out of Thy limitless love.

O, most Holy and Mighty Lord,
may our need for Thy love
meet its match
in our need to love Thee.

In the Name of Thy Son and our Lord, Savior and Joy, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Noel,

I believe that CE is a source of prayer for individuals well beyond their awareness. As an indicator of how I've drawn that conclusion I'll mention some entries that originated in prayer requests, over time, on CE. There are others (such as a special one for MK), but I'll restrict this enumeration to names of posters on this tread, viz families of Noelfitz and Michaelme and the following, more detailed entry: "Warren/Sharon Jewell; Helena, Rachel and Erik, Ken. Dick.

Peace,

Jakes

Jakes,

Many thanks for your post.

You mention people that I consider good friends of mine that have supported me and my family.

I really appreciate the support I get from CE.

I feel we are friends here, almost family, so we can argue and disagree as families do, but always there is great loyalty and understanding in our Catholic Faith.

Thank you all so much.

Please keep up the prayers.
