. . . and wondered if trying to keep up with all that Catholic Exchange offers (but, poorly organizes for our return to where we have lent to a string) will require catheterization.

I frankly admit that I go to at least two dozen Catholic (NewAdvent, Pewsitters, EWTN, WDTPRS, et al) and secular (FirstThings on-the-square and blog, Front Page, Commentary, Townhall, HumanEvents and so forth) other sites a day! I have troubles with all the keeping up even as I am a. retired, b. ravenously curious and c. a born student. I'd add "d. intelligent?" which while that sounds proud but is actually querulously skeptical that I AM intelligent. At most other sites I do not comment, in part because they have no means of involvement back-tracking, either. Plus, I frankly refrain from reading comments: it is too much like reading Chesterton annotated by Jerry Springer, all too often.

Has anyone else this fear, frustration, and futility that "knowledgeable = more ignorant"? I find an answer to a question, and garner two, three, a dozen more questions?! (AaaaaaaaaaaaaHhhhhhhhhhh!)

But, why would I want even more venues of Catholic 'exchange' when I cannot have record of where I have joined in on the exchange? It seems like trying to learn to swim by drowning myself. Or, in a big vat of honey.

AND, I will not let any 'Net function cut into my nap time! Let alone prayer time, and I do have to eat, ya know.

I love your posts.

It is like old times having a friend to talk to.

But I have a confession to make, in spite of my loyalty to CE, when discussions seemed to slow up here, I sneaked off to Catholic Answers. I felt guilty as it was like abandoning your team when it was not doing well for a more successful one.

However I find, as I am very slow at reading and sending posts, if I spend too much time on discussion groups, I do not have time to read properly - books are still a useful source of information.

Of locating my contributions to fora, etc.: My daughter suggested looking up my ‘Net monikers via Google – a sort of left-middle-handed way to look into strings, threads, tatters, etc., to which I have contributed (‘left-middle-handed’ does presume mythical likeness to mythical Shiva; though, many-armed, only two-eyed). One reference (of over thirteen hundred) had my ‘wljewell’ referred to in
“Apologie des Christenthums, By Franz Hettinger” – which reference (a German-language book I presume from what I could find) I could not bring up in detail.

We both got a chuckle out of this reference, to which my wise-acre daughter – positively ornery at her seventh month of pregnancy - remarked:
“Hmmm – spread manure and one can find it in weird places.”

‘Warren Jewell’ was worthless for such scanning – over nine hundred, most references to some New York engineer with our same name. One reference was from some lady writing to the NYTimes who married said engineer. There was even reference to his political contributions(!)

‘Pristinus Sapienter’ led to yet another thirteen hundred plus.

I stand abashed, dashed, crashed and fumb-dounded.

Google makes for spending so much time ‘finding myself’ (HOW moderne of me) I got lost.

Really, dado? Gotta try it . . .

Umm - okay - not bad - but, the Google entries are hardly date-listed or with always recognizable titles . . .

AHH - Ach - Some 'profile' addendum with 'user activity', including link to 'manage your favorites' - to which I added only one thread and have NO idea how to get to 'my favorites' to re-access. This 'user activity' list seems time-ranged LIFO - last-in-first-out - most-recent first - good . . .

HELL-O! Somebody! How do I get to this 'user activity' list again without Googling to it? I am saving the top-listed url in hopes that . . . well, heck, I'll open another tab and try it - http://forums.catholicexchange.com/profile/8839
It worked! (old-leg-style monkey-dancing - cats running from clearly insane old master)

NOW - backing out of this thread to see where it appears on its list - there are two 'user activity' lists = 'recent replies' and 'threads started', the latter of which has this topic . . .

dado, try that url above and see if you can access my profile/user activity' lists - just for the record.

Well - my 'threads started' retain date-started order rather than latest-replied-to -
"I Pulled Down 'Channels' . . . . . . . Started: 1 week ago Most recent reply: 21 seconds ago."
most recent reply is accurate, but it's kind of a bummer it was not moved to the top of my 'threads started' list.

'Recent replies' is very confusing - items seem 'frozen' for position by date-I-first-replied (?)
My own 'threads started' appear if I replied to them.
Someone will have to tell us how they order 'recent replies' as they do, and why.

Ehh! Better than nothing, hmmm?

Yep, I see your profile. BTW you can use that site: switch on yahoo and ms live search as well, results vary.

While the forum activity lists help,
1. they do not have reference to comments made to 'Today', 'The Edge', 'Touched by Grace', any of the Channels.
2. They refer to nothing of 'most-active' items, at all, except via digging, but,
3. only where I have been.

If we are to be 'exchanging', shouldn't we know where exchanging is occurring? dado could look at my forum activity because I happened upon the url for access and could ask him/her to try access to it. I can't do it for his/her activity lists. I can do it for no other's lists.

dado, I am unclear what you mean: what site? How do I switch Yahoo or 'MS Live Search' (?) 'on'?

Where are the tech Mommies around here? Am I, and maybe dado, missing something? Do I need to hold my breath? Be careful I don't find out where you live. I am a notorious refrigerator raider.
